ABOUT THE BOOK
Jack found himself in a chase as a warm breeze blew on his face. His thoughts fixed on capturing the man in front of him. He failed to realize the hot and hazy conditions in which he found himself. This day of all days was an excessively hot one in what was once the lazy South Georgia town of Moultrie. It was overcast and had a haze reaching down from what Jack thought was going to be a clear-skied day. Jack, an Atlanta homicide detective, had moved here after he found himself forced out of his once-promising career in Peach Tree City. His thoughts turned back to the chase and malice the man had shown his victim. He had brutally slain a beautiful, blond-haired southern belle with a bent toward ill-gotten behavior. She once was his accomplice, but that ended when her appetite for riches grew bigger than his bankroll was willing to give. This was the working theory, anyhow.
This case seemed so familiar. It drew him in just as it had years ago. The girls looked so much alike, and the circumstances were very similar. Both victims had beckoned him so strongly that he needed to search out the justice they deserved. Both girls were in their late teens, and both liked bad-boy types of men. They both had the opportunity in front of them but wanted it now rather than later. Their families both had money and influence and desired their children to finish college and then take part in the businesses they had created. Both girls, though, didn’t want to work for that success; they wanted quick money and a good time. When Jack had moved to this small, quaint town, he had hoped to leave the past in the past. The past, though, wouldn’t leave him behind; it almost seemed as if it hunted him down. The pull of the offense was too strong for him to deny. It drew him like a moth to a flame.
